Your future at Simacan
The Simacan Control Tower is one of our most important systems. It helps organizations in the transport and logistics sector to digitize their delivery processes. Sooner or later, data from all of our customers will pass through this system. We laid the foundation for this system over eight years ago, in the early startup phase. It was (and to some extent is) set up according to a conventional architecture based on Java, Spring Framework, Hibernate and PostgreSQL, running in a microservice cluster. Sound familiar?
This service has served us for over eight years and made a big difference for customers like Ahold, Jumbo and PostNL. However, testing has shown that we probably can't grow another 20-fold with this setup. That's not a bad thing, that's growing pains, and every company will experience them sooner or later. Fundamental issues will have to be addressed, and of course we have plans for this, but not everything is in place yet by a long shot. Would you like to join us in laying the foundation for the coming years at Simacan, so that we can grow by a factor of 20? You are more than welcome to think along. We are going to solve interesting puzzles and you can (co) make the difference.
The department you will be working in, Product Engineering, consists of about 30 enthusiastic engineers (in a healthy mix of junior, medior, senior and lead) who work together in smaller development teams based on Scrum. We do this in an environment that revolves around TDD and CI/CD. We use Scala and Java as the main programming languages. Together we work on projects focused on the cloud platform to help our customers use it even better.
