Nedcargo will increase customer value for shippers and retailers with Simacan
Logistics service provider Nedcargo, an innovative logistics service provider specialising in food & beverage, is to deploy Simacan's transport execution platform to offer extra added value to customers. With this, manufacturers and retailers get a better grip on transport flows, the availability of products in shops goes up and the number of empty miles goes down. "With Simacan, we help our customers increase their earning capacity," Nedcargo CEO Jurgen Mook explains. "With our choice for Simacan, we take our role as a chain partner to the next level."
Nedcargo operates in the Netherlands and Belgium, providing transport and storage services for companies in the food and beverage industry. To offer the end customers of these companies, often retailers, the highest possible delivery reliability with the lowest possible CO2 emissions, it is important to combine transport flows smartly and coordinate them well with all parties involved. The company has taken another step forward in this respect by choosing Simacan's smart execution management platform. Its implementation is currently in full swing. The fact that several large retailers already work with Simacan for handling their shop distribution, is a big advantage. "With Simacan, manufacturers can see the expected arrival times of trucks and retailers can see when we are coming to supply their DCs," explains Jurgen Mook. "The great thing is that retailers, for example, can make adjustments themselves to optimise their own processes. For example, bringing forward a delivery because there is an acute shortage of products somewhere, or rescheduling a stop because there are no docks or people available at a DC. By further integrating with retailers in this way and meeting their changing needs, we ultimately unburden our clients. They can leave the fine tuning with their end customers to us and don't have to worry about whether their products will be on shop shelves on time."
Prevent waste
Nedcargo is a forward-thinking and data-driven company focused on delivering a high quality service with as little waste as possible. For the latter, it is important that transport and storage activities for different customers are bundled and that transport capacity is used efficiently and ‘first time right’ (FTR). This is where the Simacan platform will make a major contribution, Mook expects. "Simacan provides real-time insight into traffic situations and calculates expected arrival times. This allows you to prevent a truck from driving for nothing or having to wait somewhere. Because you have insight into the current progress of trips, you can also see where there are last-minute economies of scope benefits and how to prevent empty miles. Data on completed trips are systematically fed back to our planning system. Suppose you always have delays at a certain address on Friday afternoons, in future, it would be better to plan this stop in the morning. This way, we can continuously optimise our planning."
Future-proof solution
Nedcargo's CEO has a clear vision of how the transport industry will develop. "To ensure that the increasingly expensive and scarce transport capacity is used properly, the supply chain partners will have to cooperate much more. Fixed carriers deployed on fixed routes won't work. For example, if we supply cargo at a retail DC on behalf of our customers, why couldn't we also directly load and deliver a cargo for that retailer at an address we go to anyway? I know this is not reality now, but will likely be a reality in the future, but we want to invest in systems that will soon make this possible.
