Detailresult Logistics make their transport operations more efficient and customer-oriented with Simacan
Amersfoort, March 9th, 2023 - Retail service provider Detailresult Logistics gives their logistics operation - with which it supplies more than 250 shops every day - a hefty efficiency boost. Simacan's Smart Execution Management (SEM) platform will allow them to make better use of the available transport capacity and fully digitalise communication between planners, drivers and shops.
Detailresult Logistics is the logistics provider for more than 250 supermarkets and liquor stores across the Netherlands, with seven Dutch DCs. Detailresult ensures the daily supply of all these shops with their own transport company and a pool of logistics service providers. For planning trips between DCs and shops, Detailresult's planners use a planning application. "This application works satisfactorily but for the transport execution we did not have a solution yet", says Peter Zonderop of Detailresult Logistics. "As soon as drivers left the DC, we were in the dark and completely lost track of their location. We never knew if the planned schedule would be met. Delays, which are more rule than exception, required a lot of calling, emailing and texting."
Inform shops
Detailresult came in contact with Simacan and got excited about the results other supermarket carriers had achieved with the SEM platform. The fact that Simacan could easily be linked to the current planning application facilitated the decision to start a proof of concept. This took place at the DC in Sassenheim and was so positively received by everyone that it has since been decided to roll out Simacan across all DCs.
The retail company was looking for a solution that would allow it to digitalise communication with stakeholders and allow drivers to work paperless with a user-friendly app. Zonderop: "We also had a long-cherished wish to automatically inform our locations of current arrival times. This way a shop or location no longer would have to call us and could work more efficient. By using Simacan they can now exactly see when a truck arrives to be unloaded. We want to roll out this feature as soon as possible at all our DCs."
Making better use of capacity
"It works like a charm," Zonderop says, based on his first experiences in Sassenheim. "The planners have real-time insight into the status of trips and see right away which problems they need to solve. They can make much better use of capacity because they can see where vehicles are and which ones still have space and available time. Every stakeholder is aware of the expected arrival times (ETA) at DCs and shops, while taking into account current traffic conditions. The quality of planning is also improving all the time because the realised times are automatically fed back from Simacan to the planning application."
There is no doubt that working with the Simacan platform will quickly pay off, according to Zonderop. Currently, drivers still receive paper order slips on which they record their hours and driven miles and which they return to the DC at the end of a trip. With Simacan and the included App2Track app, this whole process is made paperless. "Just to think about the amount of time saved because we won’t have to retype work orders any more… the reasoning for this business case is very evident."
